The Thomas Fields development in Buxton is a brand-new specialist residential extracare centre in Derbyshire, working in partnership with both Derbyshire County Council and Housing & Care 21.
The scheme itself comprises 53 extra care apartments and 16 en-suite bedrooms for specialist dementia care. Alongside associated lounge and dining spaces, the centre also contains a restaurant, hair salon, wellbeing room, hobbies and crafts room, a shop and private sensory gardens. The Thomas Fields Centre will help to enable the residents to be as socially included and independent as possible, providing a focal point for local carers to receive advice and practical support.
Thomas Fields has been developed to offer older people in Derbyshire new choices within the spectrum of housing, care and support. It is specialist housing for the elderly who need access to this type of care so that they can maintain their quality of life whilst still living independently. Essentially, having their “own front door” allows them to retain their rights and control, bridging the gap between ordinary/sheltered housing and residential care.
