Margery Fry Modular Offices

External shot of modular building

Following an initial feasibility study (completed in 2017), Glancy Nicholls Architects were appointed by the University of Birmingham to design their office accommodation that was required to overcome a space shortfall forecasted for incoming new staff.

The brief was to design an office building that could be constructed and handed over within eight months. To achieve this tight programme, we considered alternative construction methods utilising an off-site modular construction, procured by a single contractor to manufacture the building elements and complete the works on-site.

The final project consists of a three-storey L-shaped building providing cellular and open plan office space accommodating 90 new staff spaces, with integrated ancillary spaces. Designed with high-performance fabric, with low air tightness, the building achieved an EPC A rating and delivered on the clients’ aspirations for a quality finish.
