Glancy Nicholls Architects are currently appointed to undertake the feasibility and design of circa 900 residential and mixed-use masterplan scheme in Digbeth. The Stone Yard masterplan looks to create a commercial and living focused district, and provides an exciting opportunity to reinvigorate the Digbeth high street with a mix of commercial, community and residential spaces.
The project draws upon the wider aims within the Big City plan to create a walkable city with improved linkages across the River Rea towards the city centre in addition to linkages north and south of the Digbeth high street. The site itself is well connected and benefits from the improved public transport connections Birmingham City Council are undertaking including the metro and sprint bus networks linking to the HS2 developments.
The project provides opportunity to reinvigorate the Irish quarter by re-establishing a community at its heart.
