GNA are currently appointed as Executive Architects for the 3 Centenary Square scheme.
The complex project comprises the redevelopment of the Birmingham Municipal Bank and is a major refurbishment of the Grade II Listed building on behalf of the University of Birmingham.
Working alongside Galliford Try, the scheme will provide a brand-new city-centre based campus providing a civic identity within the city centre for the University. The new building is centred around public engagement, developing entrepreneurship, professional development and leadership. It will add a significant contribution into the wider Arena Central masterplan, and create a restored relationship with both the hall of memory and Baskerville House.
The Municipal Bank has been vacant since 2006, having been sold to Birmingham City Council. Built in the 1930’s and designed by T.Cecil Howitt, it is of key significance to the UK’s second city and importance lies within the preservation of the original culture and value. With the University of Birmingham obtaining the leasehold of the building in 2017, Glancy Nicholls Architects and Galliford Try will work together to honour the Bank’s historical architectural standing.
