PMAG Spitfire Pavillion Receives Planning Approval

Glancy Nicholls Architects are delighted to announce that our Potteries Museum and Art Gallery (PMAG) Spitfire Pavilion development in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, has received Planning Approval.

The new extension will prominently exhibit the museum’s RW88 Spitfire, which will be visible from the surrounding area, celebrating the importance of this artefact as a key piece of local history. The Spitfire itself is currently undergoing refurbishment by Specialists, which is due for completion at the end of 2019.

The proposed extension is to be located to the southern façade of the museum, partly demolishing a latter extension which was completed in the 2000’s. The project also includes a refurbishment of the café area, as it has been identified as a key approach to the Spitfire exhibition and is to become part of the journey and experience. There will also be an outside seating area which sits atop a new plant room to service the extension. A mezzanine level will partially encircle the Spitfire, allowing for elevated views and providing additional exhibition space.
