Former Irish Centre Tower Unveiled

Glancy Nicholls Architects working with Court Collaboration are delighted to unveil plans for a 48-storey residential tower at the site of the former Irish Centre in Deritend. The scheme will be submitted to Birmingham City Council for full planning approval in June 2020 following consultation with stakeholders and the local community. The residential development comprises 454 city apartments with around 10,000sq ft of high quality amenity space.

Lyndon Glancy of Glancy Nicholls Architects commented, “The unique design for this tower in both its form and façade treatment has be carefully been adapted and developed with the team to respond to the exceptional conditions that this island site offers. The glazed façade and expressed fins provide a contemporary signature building to Digbeth and to the landscape of Birmingham City Centre”

The tower’s dynamic form with unique leaf shape floorplate and bespoke aerodynamic fins to the west façade are direct design responses to the conditions found at the Deritend site. These design solutions create a considered and responsive statement tall building. Following full planning approval, the scheme will join the other recent Glancy Nicholls Architects approvals ‘211 Broad Street’, ‘100 Broad Street’ and ‘One Eastside’ in contributing to the future Birmingham cityscape.
