Glancy Nicholls Architects have been appointed to deliver Birmingham’s tallest exclusively residential tower scheme, working in association with Regal Property Group. The project was granted planning approval in May 2015. Upon completion, which is expected in Autumn 2018, the scheme will provide luxury, high-end city centre apartments comprising 1-3 bedrooms. The development will also provide 3,580 sq.ft of accompanying ground floor retail space.
The second phase of the Left Bank development will deliver a 31-storey apartment tower alongside the phase one tower, which is currently under construction. The design responds to the city’s requirement for new housing, on a prestigious site benefiting from close proximity to Birmingham’s commercial and business districts. The Birmingham Development Plan suggests that around 100,000 jobs are due to be created in the city in the next 15 years, therefore GNA have responded to the huge demand of city centre living.
The scheme’s focus is to respond to the Grade II listed building that occupies a key part of both the site and its streetscape, and to provide a new public realm link to the adjacent commercial and leisure district. The proposed brass clad towers take reference from the historical context of the neighbouring Brasshouse building and the site’s industrial heritage.
